PRAGUE (2010 FIBA World Championship for Women) - In the third week of January this year FIBA representatives carried out an inspection tour over the cities hosting matches of the basic groups during the forthcoming World Championship for Women 2010. The representatives of the International Basketball Federation first visited Brno and subsequently also Ostrava.
The main goal of their inspection tour was the final settlement and detailed specification of matters related to TV transmissions and installation of cameras in individual halls, providing premises for media and VIPs, as well as issues regarding the presentations of partners and sponsors of the World Championship.
An important part of the two-day visit was also a detailed inspection of both halls where the basic groups matches are to take place. Both Ostrava’s ČEZ Aréna and Brno’s Municipal Hall Vodová have proved themselves excellent, although in the past there were certain doubts just in connection with the Brno Hall. "We are well aware of the fact that from the viewpoint of sport Brno is the city of women’s basketball. In terms of capacity the Hall Vodová is smaller, but on the other hand matches will be sold out and there will be a fine atmosphere," said Predrag Bogosavljev, FIBA’s Head of Events. He has thus unequivocally refuted the speculations that in view of the low capacity of the Vodová Hall the Brno matches might be played for example at the Brno Fairgrounds. "The inspection was carried out to the satisfaction of all people present, and the FIBA representatives expressed their satisfaction with both the above-mentioned World Championship facilities and the state of preparations from the part of the Organizing Committee of the Championship," said Stanislav Křiváček, Head of the Committee.
