PRAGUE (2010 FIBA World Championship for Women) - The Czech Republic will have a new person in charge next summer when they host the FIBA World Championship for Women.
The Czech Basketball Federation has decided to part ways with national team coach Milan Veverka and his assistants, Mariana Svobody and Miroslava Volejníka.
A friend of the former women’s team coach Jan Bobrovsky, Veverka led the Czechs at the EuroBasket Women in Latvia but they only achieved a 10th-place finish with two wins and six defeats.
The Czech Federation cited "poor communication within the team and outwards" as an additional cause for the action.
"Next year, after 43 years, we are again hosting the (FIBA) World Championship for Women and consider it a crucial point in the further development of not only women but also the entire basketball movement in our country," Czech Basketball Federation president Miroslav Jansta said in a statement.
"For this reason, we decided to break up the coaching team. We have asked the Association of Basketball Coaches to submit a draft resolution as to who occupies the position of the coach."
