    CZE/CAN - Czechs leave it late to sink Canada

    BRATISLAVA (FIBA World U19 Championship for Women) - The Czech Republic produced a storming final quarter to eclipse Canada 67-60 in a Group C match at the FIBA World U19 Championship for Women. The Canadians had a 54-44 lead at the start of the final period but failed to defend it.

    The Czechs turned up the heat to take the final period 16-7.

    Romana Hejdova poured in 20 points for the Czechs with a four from 12 conversion rate from close range and two from four from distance. She was six from 10 from the charity stripe.

    It was Hejdova who nailed the equalising lay-up with 5:12 to play in the final quarter and she then converted a free throw to give her team a lead. She then buried a three-pointer and the Czechs were in the clear.

    She had stout support from Lenka Sipova who was seven from seven from inside the arc and made one from three from the free-throw line.

    Leading the way for Canada wsa Miranda Joy Ayim who hauled down 14 rebounds in addition to her 14 points although Krysten Boogaard made 15 points.

    The Czechs can be pleased with their 2-1 record in three Group C games while the Canadians are 1-2.
