    TORTOLA (CBC Championship) - Cuba will be underdogs heading into their FIBA Americas Championship campaign in San Juan, Puerto Rico, next month but they will arrive feeling very good about their chances of springing an upset after snatching a bronze medal at the CBC Championship in Tortola.

    The Cubans defeated Trinidad and Tobago 91-77 in the battle for third place.

    Geoffrei Silvestre poured in 22 points, Alexis Roberto Lavastida 19 and Allens Jemmott 16 for the Cubans.

    Jamaica, who beat Cuba in the Semi-Finals, defeated the British Virgin Islands 65-61 for the gold medal.

    Samardo Samuels had 17 points, Oritseweyinmi Efejuku 16 and Kimani Ffriend 11 along with 10 rebounds for Jamaica.

    Cuba will play in Group A at the FIBA Americas Championship (August 26 to September 6) with Venezuela, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Argentina.

    Victory in the bronze-medal game also earned Cuba a trip to the Centrobasket Tournament.

    Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Jamaica have also secured spots.
