MEXICO CITY (Women's Centrobasket) - Cuba took the Women's Centrobasket title with a 116-73 demolition of Mexico in the final.

Both nations had already secured qualification for the FIBA Americas Championship, but it was Cuba who were able to celebrate the gold medal after a hugely dominant performance.

Yakeline Plutin and Yamara Amargo led the rout with 24 and 18 points respectively, while only Erika Gomez (24) offered any resistance of note for Mexico.

Cuba had stormed into a 61-28 lead by the end of the second quarter, prompting Mexico coach Gerardo Guzman to send his reserves and youngsters out for the second half.

"We had already fulfilled our objective," Guzman explained. "We have the silver medal and we qualified (for the FIBA Americas Championship). That was what we were looking for."

The two finalists also qualified to join hosts Colombia in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, along with Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Barbados.
