Beko Basketball League side Fenerbahçe Ülker strengthened its squad by signing Croatian guard Ruko Ukic on Tuesday.
At ceremony organized at S,ükrü Saraçog(lu stadium, Ukic signed a six-month contract with the Istanbul clubs.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, former Milwaukee Bucks player Ukic said he wanted to move to a club where he can prove his potential. “I had four offers from Europe, but considering my career and position, I preferred Fenerbahçe Ülker.”
Ukic is aware that expectations for his arrival in Istanbul are high. “The team has had some disappointments this season and we have an important upcoming game against Zalgiris Kaunas,” he said. “I came here to contribute to the team, to be useful. My priority will be to prove myself with Fenerbahçe Ülker.”
Ukic was a leading player with Lottomatica Roma under Jasmin Repesa when he decided to join the Toronto Raptors, the team that held his draft rights, before the 2008-09 campaign.
He played in 72 games, but only averaged 12.4 minutes.
After being sent to Milwaukee over the summer in a trade with Carlos Delfino for the Bucks’ Amir Johnson, Ukic hoped for more playing time but most of the backcourt minutes have been gobbled up by rookie Jennings.
In 13 games for the Bucks this season, Ukic averaged 3.1 points in 7.5 minutes per game. He was acquired from Toronto on Aug. 18.
Ukic will likely be a part of the Croatian team at the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey where Croatia will compete in Group B in Istanbul against Brazil, Iran, Slovenia, Tunisia and the United States.
