BEIJING (Olympics) - Damir Markota has not recovered the meniscus injury he suffered at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in time to play for Croatia at the Beijing Games.
National team boss Jasmin Repesa has called up Damjan Rudez as Markota’s replacement.
The 2.07m Rudez played last season at KK Split and signed this summer for Olimpija Ljublana.
Rudez wan chosen for Croatia ahead of young center Ante Tomic.
Markota was a key man in the team that finished sixth at last year’s EuroBasket and was in excellent form this summer before getting hurt in Croatia’s first game in Athens against Cameroon.
