CANCUN (Central American League for Clubs) - Costa Rican side Liceo were crowned Central American League champions at the weekend.

Rodolfo Fonseca’s men won the Final Four in Cancun, Mexico, completing the triumph with an 80-69 victory over SAT Cybertech of Guatemala.

The success secured a place in the next FIBA Americas League.

Richard Gardner led the way with 23 points and Kendrick Jones weighed in with 20 against SAT.

    No one saw this coming.

Liceo had finished second in Group A on 11 points (3-5). Their 91-71 upset of Group B leaders Honduras’ Icevic on Friday put them into an interesting clash one day later against the Final Four hosts Pioneros.

Liceo stunned Pioneros, a team that had gone unbeaten in their eight Group A games, 78-73.

Jones was voted as the Final Four’s MVP.
