The 12-nation event serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup.

    ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - The Rwandan capital of Kigali is preparing to host 12 nations at the 2025 FIBA U16 Women's AfroBasket tournament.

    The event is scheduled to take place from September 2-14.

    In addition to crowning the U16 African champions, the tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup.

    The tournament's finalists will earn the opportunity to represent the continent on the world stage.

    The 2026 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup will be held in the Czech Republic from July 11-19.

    With four weeks left until the 2026 U16 Women's AfroBasket, seven teams have secured their spots. The teams are hosts Rwanda, reigning champions Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Angola, Mozambique, Kenya, and Cameroon.

    Representatives from FIBA Africa Zones 1 and 7 will be determined through regional qualifiers.

    FIBA Africa may award wildcards to fill the remaining spots in this year's U16 Women's AfroBasket lineup.
