WUHAN (FIBA Asia Championship) - The pieces for the jigsaw have been put in place for the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship, the marquee event of the 2011 FIBA Asia calendar, with the signing of the hosting contract between FIBA Asia and the LOC at Wuhan recently.

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, will play host to 16 top teams from five different FIBA Asia sub-zones to identify the Champion men’s team of FIBA Asia.

The 2011 FIBA Asia Championship, also the qualifying event for the 2012 London Olympics, will be held from Sept 15-25 at Wuhan.

The champion team from Wuhan will qualify directly for the London 2012, while the silver and bronze medallists will qualify for the FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament.

Hosts China and 2010 FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup winners Lebanon automatically qualified for the FIBA Asia Championship, while 14 others join them thanks to the various qualifying events from the FIBA Asia sub zones.

The logo and the mascot for the FIBA Asia Championship were also unveiled on the occasion.

FIBA Asia was represented by its Deputy Secretary General Hagop Khajirian (left in pic above) and Wuhan Sports Authorities signed the agreement on behalf of the CBA.
