VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) – China defeated Mali 73-46 on Saturday to clinch 11th place at the FIBA U21 World Championship for Women.
Winning for the second time at the event being played in the Moscow Region, China profited just as all of Mali’s opponents at this event when the African team went ice cold on offense.
This time, it happened midway through the first quarter.
After Laoudy Maiga’s lay-up cut China’s lead to 7-5, Mali scored just six points over the next 10 minutes.
That allowed China to open up a 33-9 lead with 4:52 remaining in the first half.
By half-time, Mali’s predicament had grown worse with China’s advantage 42-11.
Lu Lu paced a balanced China scoring attack with 12 points.
China finished 21 of 47 (44.6%) inside the arc, and six of 15 (40%) beyond it.
At the free throw line, China were an efficient 13 of 17 (76.4%).
Mali’s shooting improved in the second half and they finished 22 of 64 (34.3%) from two-point range but zero for 11 (0%) from the arc.
At the charity stripe, they were a woeful two of 11 (22.2%).
