BEIJING (CBA) - Veteran Wang Zhizhi erupted for 38 points to help Bayi Rockets move up to fourth in the standings following a 107-104 win over feisty Beijing Ducks on Wednesday.
It was Wang's sixth game of more than 30 points in his 15 seasons in the CBA, 14 of which he has spent with the Rockets.
The 34-year-old - the first Chinese to play in the NBA - shot 12 of 19 from the field and went 12 of 14 from the foul-line. He also had 15 rebounds and two assists.
The most telling acknowledgment of Wang’s impact on the game came from his rival on the night, Randolph Morris - Beijing's high man with 33 points - who bowed down in a gesture of reverence after one of the Chinese international's characteristic plays.
Up next for Bayi are league leaders Xinjiang Flying Tigers.
No problems for Xinjiang, Guangdong Tigers
Meanwhile, Xinjiang Flying Tigers and Guangdong Tigers had straight-forward wins and, with No 2 DongGuan Leopards having a bye for this round, Bayi’s move up the standings was the only change in the top four.
Quincy Douby poured in a mammoth 49 points as Xinjiang routed Jiangsu 113-103. His compatriot James Singleton added 22 points while Mengke Bateer grabbed 11 rebounds.
Frenchman Jerome Moiso paced Jiangsu with 24 points.
Marcus Haislip and Lester Hudson each scored 23 points – the former also adding nine rebounds and five assists – as Guangdong hammered Shandong 129-92.
Myron Allen had a team-high 19 points for the Flaming Bulls.
Qingdao win in OT
In an interesting game between two teams at the bottom of the table, Qingdao Double Star beat Fujian Xunxin 110-109 after overtime.
Charles Gaines led Qingdao with 42 points and 19 rebounds and Dee Brown added 24 points and 12 assists.
Andre Emmett had 38 points for Fujian.
