Xinjiang took advantage with a 101-86 win over Beijing which brought them to within a game of the leaders at 23-4.
David Jackson was the star, draining 39 points as well as contributing five rebounds and five assists.
A further three games back are Jiangsu, who saw off Bayi 103-100, despite a 37-point, 13-rebound performance from Wang Zhizhi.
Basement boys Shanxi Zhongyu (5-22) beat Shanxi Dongsheng 109-108 in their bottom-of-the-table clash to move to within a game of their opponents.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Fujian, Dongguan, Shanghai and Zhejiang Guangsha, for whom Rodney White drained 40 points.
