CHINA (Chinese Basketball Association) – The Shanghai Sharks and their China national team point guard Liu Wei are keeping the pressure on the top three in the CBA.
Veteran playmaker Liu had 31 points and six assists to help fire his club to a 131-108 triumph over Dongguan in the latest round of top flight action.
Shanghai, who got a team-high 34 from John Lucas III, improved to 12-3 with the victory. They trail joint-leaders Guangdong and Xinjiang (both 14-1) and Zhejiang Guangsha (13-2) in the regular-season title race.
Zheijiang (13-2) had their hands full with Jilin but prevailed 94-91 thanks to Rodney White’s 30 points and 14 rebounds. Elsewhere, Guandong rolled over Jiangsu 114-88 and Xinjiang bested Beijing 119-108.
Meanwhile, the Stephon Mabury watch is on at strugglers Shanxi Zhongyu. The club caused a stir 10 days ago when it announced that the former USA international was to join the team, and according to a story on the club's website on Tuesday, the 32-year-old American is due to arrive on Wednesday.
After a long dispute with the New York Knicks, Marbury joined the Boston Celtics late last season and came off the bench to help them in their NBA Play-offs push.
Marbury reportedly wants to promote his Starbury brand of basketball shoes in China.
