BEIJING (CBA) - Bayi made the headlines last year when they knocked off defending champions Guangdong in the CBA Finals but they’ll be lucky to escape the last eight after slipping to a second straight setback on Friday to Liaoning.
Wang Zhizhi and Co led for much of the game and had a 17-point advantage in the third quarter but lost 98-97 to leave the home fans fuming over the result, and the officiating.
Wang and Mo Ke both fouled out in the fourth quarter.
Bayi coach Adijan Chang Bin did not cut a happy figure after the contest.
“When Yao Kaifu is shooting a free throw, Liaoning players interfered with him.
“I never talk about referees at press conferences, but I hope they will pay attention.
“Our players are training very hard.”
Nevertheless, he appealed for calm after many of the Bayi fans chose to remain after the game to make their displeasure known.
“The supporters should accept the result,” he said.
Wang fouled out but he got only praise from his coach.
“He is excellent, and dedicated,” Adijan said.
Guangdong and Dongguan also lead their respective play-off quarter-finals 2-0 after Friday’s play while Fujian got back on level terms at 1-1 with Jiangsu.
Guangdong won 105-98 at Guangsha while Dongguan rolled to a 112-96 triumph over Shangdong.
Fujian prevailed 112-99 over Jiangsu.
