Chinese tall guy Sun Ming Ming has realised his dream of becoming the tallest person ever to play pro basketball in the US.

Ming, 23-years-old and 7 feet 9 inches tall, dwarves his new Maryland Nighthawks team-mates but colleague and mentor Randy "White Chocolate" Gill is delighted to have him in the line-up.

"We call him 'big homey' because he's the biggest fella on the block and he's a great guy. He's got a great heart and he's a great person," said Gill

The Nighthawks play in the ABA - the poorer cousin of the NBA, where Ming hopes to end up. He's already tried out for the LA Lakers and Nighthawks coach William Rankin reckons it is only a matter of time before he bursts into the top tier.

He said: "If they were to get him in shape he could play in the league because of his enormous size and his ability to move.

"He's not slow so he would be a factor at any level. Any upper division league, FIBA league, NBA League, this league, whatever league, he's going to be a player."

If shooting hoops doesn't work out, it seems the big man could still become a player in Hollywood - he recently finished filming Rush Hour III with Jackie Chan.

But for the moment, Ming's concentrating on the court in his merciless quest to become the tallest baller in the NBA.
