PUENTE ALTO (Dimayor) - Liceo Mixto, Universidad de Concepcion and Provincial Osorno have all booked their places in the semi-finals of the Dimayor league in Chile.
Pablo Ares’ Liceo eliminated Puente Alto, with an overall 3-1 win, which began with two wins in the best-of-five tie last weekend.
Puente claimed an 88-87 win in Game Three, thanks to a good performance by Isadore Thornton, who top-scored with 29 points.
However, in Game Four on Saturday night, Terrence Hill was unstoppable helping himself to a whopping 43 points in Mixto’s 122-102 victory. Rodrigo Espinoza also made a huge contribution, netting 32 points for the visitors.
“They (Puente Alto) planned to play a physical game, but we managed to stay calm and control the match,” said Liceo centre Oliver Hermosilla, who netted nine points in the decisive duel. “We also have a big squad, so we can rotate our players.”
Liceo will now meet the winners of the tie between Castro and Boston College, with the former 2-0 ahead.
The other semi-finals will see Universidad de Concepcion meet Provincial Osorno.
Both teams swept their quarter-final rivals aside, eliminating Valdivia and Ancud, respectively, with 3-0 wins.
In the decisive Game Three, Universidad saw-off Valdivia 89-84.
Djibril Kante netted 27 points and Rodney Gidney and Jorge Vasquez contributed 15 each to help Cipriano Nunez’s side advance to the penultimate stage of the competition.
In Ancud, meanwhile, Christopher Jeffries top-scored with 32 points, with Erik Carrasco coming off the bench to score 24, as Osorno edged hosts Ancud 95-89 in the final game of the tie.
The best-of-five semi-finals are scheduled to start next Friday.
