EVORA (FIBA Americas Championship) - Chile women’s team claimed their first-ever win in Europe - but lost their four-match series 3-1 against Portugal.
The South American underdogs claimed the third game of the series 72-59 to make history, Valentina Aragonese top-scoring with 21 points and Ziomara Morrison contributing 16.
They lost the opening match 59-42 despite Claudia Schobitz’s 10-point haul, and went down 71-66 in Game Two.
Portugal also went on to take Game Four 66-59, but that could not dampen the spirits of the tourists who were expected to be whitewashed on their trip to the
Mediterranean.
The tour was part of Chile’s build-up to hosting the FIBA Americas Championship in Valdivia at the end of September, which will see the winners progress to the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
