Cancun and Mar del Plata to host Semi-Final Round of DIRECTV Liga de las Americas

SAN JUAN (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas FIBA) - FIBA has confirmed the venues and groups for the Semi-Final Round of the 2015 DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.

The Semi-Finals of the most important club competition in the Americas will take place in Cancun, Mexico from 20-22 February and in Mar de Plata, Argentina from 27 February to 1 March.

Eight teams will compete in two groups configured in the following way:

Semi-Final #1 (Cancun, Mexico - 20-22 February)
Pioneros (MEX) - Host
Bauru (BRA)
Regatas (ARG)
Sao Jose dos Campos (BRA)

Semi-Final #2 (Mar del Plata, Argentina - 27 February-1 March)
Penarol (ARG) - Host
Flamengo (BRA)
Trotamundos (VEN)
Halcones Rojos (MEX)

After the four-team series - played in a round robin format - conclude, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Final Four. 

Alberto Garcia, Regional Director of FIBA Americas, said: "I would like to first of all express our gratitude to the clubs that also contacted us and made an offer to host.

"This year has been historic for our competition and we had the fortune of having several major candidates seeking to host the Semi-Finals and thus increase their chances of advancing to the Final Four.

"We are very pleased with having Pioneros and Penarol as hosts, past champions of our league, that have shown great organisational capacity in previous opportunities.

"We expect two Semi-Finals played at the highest level, in emblematic arenas for this competition and our sport. The only thing left to do is enjoy two exciting weeks of the best basketball has to offer in the Americas at the club level."

The Final Four will be played on 13-14 March at a venue yet to be confirmed.
