Canada's women's team play Senegal today to open the FIBA women's world championships in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It's Canada's first appearance at the world tournament since a seventh-place finish in 1994 in Australia.
"I've been told, and I know the history, and I know how excited everyone was last year when we did qualify, so I know this is a big deal for us going," said Tammy Sutton-Brown, a forward for the WNBA's Charlotte Sting.
"Probably one of the greatest moments for me was playing in the (2000) Olympics, and playing in the world championships is something I've never done, so I'm really excited about that."
Canada narrowly missed out on a berth for the 2004 Olympics, losing by six points to Brazil in the deciding game. Brazil went to Athens and the Canadians stayed home
