    CAN - Senior women fall to Czech nationals

    CHOMUTOV (National Team) In their first game of a three-game exhibition series vs. the Czech Republic, the Canadian Senior Women's National Team dropped an 86-56 decision to their European hosts.

    The Czech national team took an early lead in the first quarter, recording the highest quarter scoring total of the game with 27 points, while holding the Canadians to 15 points. In the second quarter, the Czech Republic continued their defensive pressure, increasing their lead to 18 points and finishing the first half up 48-30. Canada ended the half in some foul trouble, recording 14 fouls to Czech Republic's five.

    The second half began with the Czech Republic continuing to build on their first-half lead, finishing the third quarter with a 67-42 advantage, putting them in good standing going into the fourth quarter. The Czech's scored 19 points in the final frame, to finish with a 30-point margin of victory.

    Kleindienst led all Canadians with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. Senior women's team newcomer Jordan Adams was Canada's other double-digit scorer with 11 points. Amanda Brown paced the squad with eight rebounds.

    Czech Republic's Eva Viteckova was the game's high scorer with 18 points.

    The team will play another exhibition game against the Czech Republic tomorrow and will finish the three-game series on Friday, August 18.

    The team then returns to Canada for a brief training break before flying to São Paulo, Brazil for an exhibition tournament, September 6 – 8, as final preparation for the FIBA Women's World Championships, September 12-23.

    Canada has been placed in pool “C” for the World Championships and will see round robin action against Senegal (Sept. 12), Lithuania (Sept. 13) and Australia (Sept. 14).
