TORONTO (FIBA Americas Championship) - Canada Basketball has announced the status of Senior Men’s National Team guard Andy Rautins.
In Wednesday's opening game against Brazil, Rautins suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifier in Las Vegas, NV.
“Investigations of the injury sustained by Andy Rautins in Canada's opening game have confirmed that he suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee,” stated Team Physican Dr. Andrew Pipe.
“He will be returning to Syracuse, NY in due course in order for definitive treatment and rehabilitation of his injury.”
Rautins is expected to be a medical redshirt for Syracuse Orangemen during the 2007/08.
A member of the Canadian national team program since 2005, Rautins was part of the Senior Men’s team that competed at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this summer. Andy led the team in scoring averaging 13.4 points per game over five games.
At Syracuse University last season, Rautins played in 35 games averaging 21.2 minutes per game. He averaged 7.2 points per game while scoring in double figures 12 times.
He had only played two minutes in the opening game at the FIBA Americas Championship versus Brazil before he was injured.
