CAN - National championships set to begin
TORONTO (National Championship)- Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the National Championships will begin on August 1st, as various provincial and territorial teams compete to claim the crown of Canada
TORONTO (National Championship)- Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the National Championships will begin on August 1st, as various provincial and territorial teams compete to claim the crown of Canada. The men’s U17 and U15 tournaments will take place in Vancouver, BC with Simon Fraser University being the main venue for competition. The women’s U17 and U15 tournament will be hosted by Sherbrooke, QC. Games will be held at Bishop’s University and CEGEP Sherbrooke.
Teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland will be represented in both tournaments and age categories.
For the first time ever, the three Territories of Canada’s North will team up and enter a team in to the U17 Men’s competition.
Last year, the U17 Championships were held at the Canada Summer Games in Regina. Ontario managed to walk away with both gold medals outscoring Quebec in the Men’s and Alberta in Women’s Division. Saskatchewan claimed bronze for the Men’s side, while Nova Scotia was awarded bronze in the Women’s division.
The U15 Championships took place in Calgary, Alberta in 2005 and saw the Ontario teams complete the golden sweep. Ontario beat the British Columbia team in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions to earn their medals. Alberta took the bronze for the Men’s division, while Nova Scotia claimed bronze in the women’s.
