MOSCOW (PBL) – Canada point guard Jermaine Anderson has left BC Triumph in Russia’s PBL.
Triumph are bottom of Russia’s PBL heading into Sunday’s home game against Spartak St Petersburg, one of two teams they have beaten this season in Russia’s top flight.
Anderson was one of the heroes of Canada’s successful 2009 FIBA Americas Championship in Puerto Rico when they clinched a spot in the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
The coach of Triumph, Lithuanian Valdemaras Chomicius, said on the club’s website: “We wanted Anderson to play the leader role in the team, to organize the game and help the young players to improve.
“Unfortunately, Anderson didn't show a good game the last two months. He looked confused during the practices and games.
“We tried to solve this problem together with Jermaine, but the attempt wasn't successful, so we decided to cut the contract. We hope that Anderson will find his game and will play the high-level game in his new team.”
Anderson scored 16, 12, 18 and 18 points in Triumph’s first four games but then saw his minutes cut substantially.
After his 18-point game, seven-assist game in the team’s upset of Spartak in St Petersburg, he played less than half the contest the next time out against Lokomotiv Kuban and then was on the court for not even a quarter in the last two clashes with Nizhniy Novgorod and Enisey.
