TORONTO (National Federation) - On October 27 – 29, Canada Basketball will host the inaugural Canada Basketball Invitational Tournament (CBIT) at Humber College and Ryerson University.
Formerly known as the Raptors Invitation Tournament (RIT), the competition boasts some of the best teams in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) in a bracket-style preparation tournament for their regular season. Canada Basketball will also feature two of their development teams in the tournament.
The CIS season tips-off October 27th with last year's CIS Women's Champions UBC taking on Trinity Western. All four CIS conferences will begin play November 10th.
The CCAA season opened on October 10th with the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference playing their initial games, while the other four provincial college associations will begin play on November 3rd.
The women's division will play out of Ryerson University and will feature the host team Ryerson, the 2005 RIT Champions and 2005/06 AUS Champions Cape Breton University, 2005/06 CCAA silver medalist Collège Édouard-Montpetit, University of Guelph, 2005/06 CCAA Champions Collège Montmorency, University of Toronto, and 2005/06 OUA silver medalist York University. Canada Basketball's National Elite Development Academy women's team will also be competing in the tournament.
The men's division will play out of Humber College and will see the men's team at Humber College host the 2005/06 CCAA Champions Collège Montmorency, Centennial College, Champlain Regional College - St Lambert, University du Quebec à Montreal, Ryerson University, and the University of Windsor. Canada Basketball will also field a development team under the guidance of Men's National Development Coach Greg Francis.
