ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - In this article, we look ahead to some of the major basketball events in Africa, which will keep both national teams and clubs busy in FIBA Africa's 2026 calendar.
February
The second window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, which runs from 26 February to 1 March, is FIBA Africa's first major event of 2026.
March
The qualifying tournaments for the FIBA U18 AfroBasket (boys' and girls') tournaments will take place between March and July 2026.
The dates for the final rounds of both tournaments have yet to be determined.
March will also see the beginning of the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL), with the Kalahari Conference being held in Pretoria, South Africa.
April
The 2026 BAL Sahara Conference is set to take place in Rabat, Morocco, in April.
May
The 2026 BAL Playoffs will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, in May.
February to June
Qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA AfroCan will take place between February and June.
July
The third window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, in which all 16 teams will compete, will take place from 2 to 5 July. The host countries are yet to be determined.
August
The fourth window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers, in which all 16 teams will compete, will take place in August. The host countries are yet to be determined.
September
The Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) qualifiers are scheduled to take place between September and November.
September to November
The qualifying campaign (Road to BAL) for the 2027 BAL season is expected to take place between September and November 2026.
December
The 2026 Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) is set to take place from 4 to 13 December.
NOTE - The dates for the qualifying campaign for the biennial 2027 Women's AfroBasket have yet to be determined.
