    LA PALMA (Spain) - We are down to the elite eight at this year's FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket as a fiercely competitive Round of 16 was played out on Wednesday.

    Poland's Maria Burliga continues to impress at FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket, with the prodigy obtaining the highest efficiency rating so far of the tournament as her 23 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks helped her side edge Slovenia 67-65 in the Round of 16 and earned Burliga an efficiency rating of 34.

    After a slow start, France recovered to beat Portugal 86-39 to advance to the Quarter-Finals, with Alicia Tournebize the standout. She posted a double-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds, shooting an impressive 58 percent from the floor on 12 field goal attempts, and managed to add 2 steals and 2 blocks to her statline for a rating of 25.

    Poland heartbreakingly dashed Slovenia's hopes of progressing past the Round of 16 in a gripping bout despite the best efforts of Tjasa Turnsek. The 18 year old played all 40 minutes, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Turnsek also dished out 5 assists.

    Isabel Hassan was the instigator in Italy's convincing 64-47 win over Czechia in their Round of 16 match-up. Hassan posted 13 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and swatted away 4 shots as she posted a rating of 21.

    Montenegro showed nerves of steel to book their place in the Quarter-Finals with back-to-back three-pointers from Jelena Bulajic leading to a thrilling 74-71 win over Hungary. But quietly getting the job done and steering the ship was Milena Vujovic, who shot 6-for-12 from the field for 13 points, kept the offense alive with four offensive boards on her way to 11 rebounds overall, and got 4 steals for an efficiency rating of 19.
