BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Brunei received valuable lessons that would surely help in bettering basketball in the country following the successful Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) workshop organized by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia.
In partnership with the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA), the seminar was held last 5-6 May, spearheaded by Coach Hani Assi.
And the local hoops fraternity proved how eager they were in learning from the program made to provide knowledge to coaches, athletes, and stakeholders regarding the importance of strength and conditioning in the sport in particular.
Familiar faces attended the two-day clinic such as Ben Sim, the former men's national team star who was appointed as its head coach just last March.

"Coach Hani was very knowledgeable," he said. "Very clear and concise with the answers to the question I had asked. We need more exposure to this kind of knowledge to all our coaches to improve Brunei Basketball as a whole."
Another former national team standout in Jenn Chyuan Yap felt glad to have refined his understanding on certain workouts thanks to the SPS program, which also teaches how to decrease the risk of injuries on players.
"The most beneficial learning points are having different tailor-fit programs for different workout and purposes," he said. "It was a great class."
Rachael Lee, meanwhile, was thankful to have been part of the workshop as it would help set up a plan for the S&C program of the women's team.
The SPS program is part of FIBA's larger initiative to bolster the physical training capabilities of local coaches and promote strength and conditioning in basketball.
