SAN ANTONIO (NBA) – Brazil international Tiago Splitter isn’t likely to see his NBA career start on time because of the calf strain that has kept him out of pre-season games.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says he will sit the center and not play him in Wednesday’s regular-season opener against Indiana on Wednesday.

"I'm not planning on Tiago for the opening night," Popovich said to the San Antonio Express-News.

"If he's going to be ready, he'll have to change my mind."

Splitter was voted MVP of the Spanish ACB last season.

He led long-time club Caja Laboral to a 3-0 victory over Regal Barcelona in the play-off finals and then represented his country at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.
