Alex poured in 34 points for Jose Vidal's table-toppers, while Olivia provided the resistance for seventh-placed Flamengo, who suffered their 10th defeat of the season, with 27 points and seven rebounds.
The game was played in front of a crowd of 24,286 at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium of Brasilia - a Campeonato Nacional record.
Universo stormed into a 32-13 first quarter lead before Flamengo hitback with a 30-25 second session to trail 57-43 at the break.
Flamengo's resilience was ended in the third period as Universo posted a 27-20 surge to head into the final quarter with a 84-63 advantage before sealing the win with a 17-15 final session.
"We played well and managed to control our opponents offense," said Vidal. "I want to congratulate our supporters who created a fantastic spectacle."
Thomas poured in 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Minas Tenis picked up a 15th win of the season with a 108-93 victory over Paulistano.
Minas Tenis used a crucial 25-19 third quarter to breakaway after holding just a two point lead at half-time.
Iguacu Basquete crashed to a 17th defeat of the season as Inesul/Londrina stormed to a 102-64 victory, while Cetaf/Vila Velha recorded a 76-62 victory against Saldanha Da Gama.
