VITORIA (ACB) – Tiago Splitter is taking a page out of the book of former teammate Luis Scola by signing a contract extension at Tau Ceramica and delaying his move to the NBA.
Splitter, a Brazil international who just helped the Basque outfit capture the ACB crown, was selected in the first round of last year’s draft by San Antonio but has signed a new four-year deal with Tau.
The contract has an escape clause, though, which allows him to leave for the NBA after two seasons.
Argentina international Scola was drafted several years ago by San Antonio but did not leave Tau until last summer after the Spurs traded his rights to Houston.
Tau, meanwhile, have decided not to extend coach Neven Spahija’s contract.
The club is being linked with former boss Dusko Ivanovic, who was dumped by Barcelona in the middle of the campaign with the team struggling in all competitions.
