SAO PAULO (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Brazil national team hopeful Carlos Alexandre Nascimento "Olivinha" has broken a finger on his left hand and will be sidelined for four weeks.
The 26-year-old Pinheiros forward was working out with Ruben Magnano's side, trying to make the team for the South American Championship to be staged in Colombia from July 26 to August 1.
Despite his chances of playing in that tournament dashed, Olivinha has remained with the team.
Magnano has been in training with 19 players.
They will have two friendly games coming up against Uruguay.
The sides will meet on March 9 in Santa Cruz do Sul, and clash the following day in Porto Alegre.
The teams that finish in the top four at the South American Championship will qualify for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship in Mar de Plata, Argentina.
All of the players taking part are hoping to impress and earn a spot in the Brazil squad that will compete at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey later this year.
Brazil veterans like Tiago Splitter and Marcelo Huertas and several NBA players are expected to join the national team on July 19 to begin preparing for Istanbul, where Magnano’s team will face Team USA, Slovenia, Croatia, Iran and Tunisia in the Preliminary Round.
