RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio de Janeiro State Championship) - Brazil captain Marcelo Machado has returned to his homeland to sign a deal with giants Flamengo.
Machado, who has won three Pan American titles, has signed a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old small forward joins from Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania, and admits that he will need time to regain form and fitness before he can make an impact at the club.
"I've been without activity for 15 days, so I need some days to take physical condition and help the team," Machado said.
"I wanted to be back in Brazil and Flamengo gave me the chance. I'm sure it will be special for me because you don't play with such special fans by your side so often.
"Flamengo is building a great team and I'm sure we'll start a great season."
Machado's first outing for Flamengo will be in the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, which gets under way this weekend.
