    BRA – FIBA Americas Championship for Women to be played in Cuiabá

    SAO PAULO (2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women) – The deal to celebrate the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women in Cuiaba was signed in a meeting held in Sao Paulo between the authorities of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation and FIBA Americas. The tournament will be played on September 23-27 in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

    CBB President, Carlos Nunes was along FIBA Americas Secretary General, Alberto Garcia, FIBA Americas Communications Chief, Javier Otero, among other authorities.

    "The city of Cuiabá has an excellent infrastructure to have sporting events and it was certified by FIFA to be one of the 12 cities for the World Cup in 2014. I am sure that the FIBA Americas Championship will be a tournament with a great level of competition and the delegations will be satisfied with the organization. We will be in Cuiaba tomorrow to sign the deal with the government of Grosso," said Carlos Nunes.

    The tournament will be played at Aecin Tocantins Arena that has a capacity for 11,000 fans. This tournament will have Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

    The top three teams qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in the Czech Republic.
