FOZ DO IGUACU (FIBA Americas Championship) - A couple of sides looking to make it to the London Games via the FIBA Americas Championship met in a friendly on Tuesday and Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic.
The Brazilians won 87-77 with veteran Marcelo Machado pouring in 13 points, Marquinhos Sousa 12 and Alex Garcia 11.
Marcelo Huertas and Guilherme Giovannoni each contributed eight points.
"This was another important test against a direct opponent in the fight for Olympic place, which gave me the chance to make important assessments about our team," said Brazil coach Ruben Magnano.
Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva had a game-high 18 points for the Dominicans.
The FIBA American Championship tips off on August 30 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The finalists will reach the London Games while the teams that come in third, fourth and fifth will book places in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
