TORONTO (NBA) – Toronto Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has traded Brazilian national team centre Rafael Araujo to the Utah Jazz.
In his first major move since taking over the job in Toronto, Colangelo acquired forward Kris Humphries and centre Robert Whaley for the South American, who played for his country at the FIBA World Championship in 2002.
Colangelo, the 2005 NBA Executive of the Year with Phoenix, was lured to Toronto in February with the task of trying to turn around a team with a 27-55 record this past season.
And he has wasted little time in getting rid of 6ft 11in Araujo, who has been a major disappointment since being selected eighth overall in the 2003 draft out of Brigham Young.
Araujo has averages of 2.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 111 games.
“We wish Rafael well and feel this will be a positive move for both teams,” Colangelo said.
