BRASILIA (FIBA World Championship) - Brazil's preparations for the FIBA World Championship look to be right on track after they claimed victory at the Super Four tournament in Brasilia this weekend.
Brazil routed Angola 89-59 in Sunday's final after topping Venezuela 92-50 in the opener.
"The highlight was the team spirit and the defense of the group, which was great," said coach Ruben Magnano. "We have improved considerably in our rebounding, which was the weak point coming in. This shows the focus and commitment of everyone in what we are doing."
Carlos Morais had 19 points and Leandro Barbosa 15 to lead Brazil to victory over Angola.
They dominated the game throughout, and enjoyed a 52-36 lead at half-time.
"Our attitude deserves top marks," said guard Marcelo Huertas. "We made some silly mistakes but we can still improve before the start of the World Championship. We must also stay grounded because we have a lot of work to do to get to where we want, but everyone has the same focus and this helps."
In the opening game, Guilherme, Marquinhos and Anderson Varejao had 13 points each to lead a balanced Brazil attack against Venezuela.
In the other results from the tournament, Angola beat Chile 80-59, and while Venezuela topped Chile 75-50.
Brazil will now head to the United States on Monday to play games against China and Puerto Rico in New York.
