RIO DE JANEIRO (FIBA World Championship) - South American Championship winners Brazil have announced their 15-man preliminary squad for the FIBA World Championship and a host of NBA players are involved.

The Brazilians will not have Denver Nuggets center Nene, who missed last season after suffering a serious knee injury and is still working on his recovery. But coach Lula Ferreira does have the likes of guard Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers big man Anderson Varejao and Utah Jazz center Rafael Araujo.

Among the big names playing from Europe are Tau Ceramica center Tiago Splitter, DKV Joventut guard Marcelinho Huertas and BC Kyiv forward Guilherme Giovanonni.

Brazil are in Group C, which is widely considered the toughest of the four pools in Japan, alongside Australia, European champions Greece, Lithuania, Qatar and Turkey. Lula Ferreira's team will play warm-up games against New Zealand from July 23-28.

Brazil's 15-man preliminary squad: Caio Torres, Estevam Ferreira, Murilo Becker, Tiago Splitter, Rafael Araujo, Anderson Varejao, Andre Bambu, Guilherme Giovanonni, Marcelinho Machado, Leandro Barbosa, Alex Garcia, Marcelo Huertas, Wellington Dos Santos, Marcus Vinicius Toledo and Paulo Prestes.
