SAO PAOLO (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) — Claudinha (point guard); Karen e Karla (guards/forwards); Chuca, Iziane, Micaela e Tatiana (forwards); Êga, Franciele, Graziane, Ísis e Mamá (centers). These are the 12 players which will be integrating the national team which will be present in the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 for Women, which will be taking place from September 26 to 30.
“It’s a young group, renovated, and with a lot of promises. The training phase was very fruitful, and we keep working very hard each day. We’re growing, and we’re going to get to the Pre-Olympic in good shape. The main characteristic of the team is its aggressive defense, which give us a good perspective. I’m confident on the kind of work the players are capable of, but I’m also aware that we’re in a renovation process. We’ve got be patient and wait for this team to be able to play to its whole potential. Right now, we’re going to see the lack of international exposure, but we have the tools to face any rival evenly”, Bassul said.
“This is a personal achievement. I feel very happy for the opportunity of representing my national team, even though I don’t have much experience in competitions like the Pre-Olympic. I’m very grateful of Paulo Bassul for this opportunity, and for trusting my abilities. I'm going to give a 100% of me in order to help Brazil,” center Franciele said, for whom this will be the first competition as member of the national team.
“Our chances of winning this competition are good. We started over with a new working schedule, a new philosophy, and now we have a few days available to tune-up some aspects of our game. We’re going to the Pre-Olympic in great shape; with lots of determination. The only thing now left is for the teams to come…”, forward Tatiana, whose fist competition was the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, said.
