BIH - Domercant tears ACL

ISTANBUL (EuroBasket/FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Bosnia and Herzegovina shooting guard Henry Domercant has torn the ACL in his right knee while playing for Galatasaray Medical Park in a Eurocup game against Lokomotiv Kuban this week.

The 31-year-old marksman, who averaged more than 13 points per game for the national team at EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania, has been told he will be sidelined for several months.

Galatasaray announced the disappointing news on their website.

A statement said: “The player has to be operated on…and the healing process is expected to be approximately six months.”

The severity of the injury casts doubt on Domercant’s availability for Bosnia and Herzegovina at next summer’s EuroBasket in Slovenia.

Though named in the preliminary squad for Bosnia and Herzegovina's Qualification Round campaign for EuroBasket 2013, Domercant did not play.

The national team finished top of its qualifying group without him.

It was recently drawn in what seasoned observers have described as the 'group of death' for next year's EuroBasket.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are in Group B with Lithuania, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (MKD), Montenegro, Serbia and Latvia.

Only the top three sides will advance to the next round.

The EuroBasket will serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The Balkan country naturalized Domercant, an American, in time for him to play at EuroBasket 2005 in Serbia and Montenegro, where he averaged 11 points and five rebounds in three games.

He also played for the national team in their unsuccessful qualifying campaign for EuroBasket 2007 in Spain.

At EuroBasket 2011, Domercant had a couple of scoring explosions.

He poured in 25 points in a defeat to Finland and 23 in a win over Croatia.
