    GREECE
    MEN’S OLYMPIC BASKETBALL, 2008

    Team Characteristics
A team characterized by aggressive, hard nosed play. They attempt to keep the pressure on the
opponent at all times. A healthy inside/outside mix gives them offensive flexibility and the ability to
turn up the defensive effort. Can beat you in the full court, but will be patient and grind it out in the
    half court when necessary.

    Offensive Tendencies
This offense features the high on ball screen with a low post presence. The offense is spread out
well given the post a lot of room to post and score. Begin possession with wing pass and quick down
screen in the high post for ball reversal. On ball screens are set at the top of the key and on the
wings. Good passing team that is willing to make the extra perimeter pass for an open shot. The
spread 4 out 1 in alignment is common, with post feeds a priority of each possession.

    Transition
Efficient in transition with guards finishing most plays at the rim. They pass the ball ahead well and
drive it to the paint or basket. Posts run the floor for lay ups or put backs. They would rather make
the extra pass or post feed than shoot the three off the break.

    Set Plays
    1. Wing entry followed by hand off, cutter uses back screen for lob.
    2. Small/Big cross screen, double screen for shooter, post step out.
    3. UCLA cut to back screen for post, post isolation.

    Out of Bounds
Basic set stacks two players at the free throw line with two wings. Perimeter play in the stack can use
screens to get open or slip on the backside to the basket. Against zones, in bounds passer looks to
step into the ball side corner behind a screen for a shot.

    Zone Offense
Use two different alignments against the zone. One is a high post/low post set with ball screens up
top and flare screens on the wing. Another alignment is the 4 out offense with perimeter cutters and
weak side flashes. Posts pass well out of the post when needed. Penetration against the zone
creates shots or second penetration opportunities.

    Team Defense
Play a combination of man to man and 2-3 zone defense. Play zone on baseline OB plays. Will
extend man to man pressure in the full court and will trap and run and jump. Posts are good basket
protectors and block shots at the rim.
