    MEN’S OLYMPIC BASKETBALL, 2008

    Team Characteristics
This team’s strength lies in its team unity and aggressive play. Their relentless approach takes
advantage of the opponent’s weaknesses. Solid in the half and full court but their focus in on getting
the ball near the basket by feeding the post or driving to the rim.

    Offensive Tendencies
Post play is the target of this offense. Most possessions include a post feed option on the initial entry
or after the ball is reversed. If post is doubled, the ball comes back out for a shot or dribble
penetration and may go back into the post a second time.

    Transition
Most transition basket come from ball deflections or blocked shots. They will run on misses when
they have a numbers advantage. They use their excellent passing skills to find open players in
transition including posts running the floor. Will shoot open three or drive the ball into the paint. Their
goal is to drive to ball until the defense commits their position. Many times they are able to get the
ball all the way to the basket.

    Set Plays
    1. Wing dribble out, ball reversal, on ball screen.
    2. Double screen to free perimeter player followed by double baseline screen.
    3. On ball screen, post down screen, post seal and post feed

    Out of Bounds
Start in stack on ball side and pop out perimeter or post player. If post pops out, he will reverse ball
and be screened back into the post. Secondary screening action will free up shooters on the
perimeter. A triple screen option play can free a shooter or create a lay up by a slip screen to the
    basket.

    Team Defense
Half court defense is man to man and zone. There are many variations within their half court zone.
The 2-3 standard zone can be adapted to defend specific players, especially perimeter shooters.
Following cutters through the zone gives it the look of a match up zone. Because of their size up
front they contest and block a lot of shots.
