Antel Arena will be state-of-the-art stage for BCLA’s final

MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) - With the maximum health and safety controls, the impressive Antel Arena is already preparing to host the final of the first season of the Basketball Champions League Americas between Flamengo and the winner of the series between San Lorenzo and Quimsa.

The Antel Arena is a multifunctional stadium located in the former space occupied by the Cilindro Municipal, in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was designed by the architects Pablo Bacchetta, José Flores and Rodrigo Carámbula, who describe it as a place with a strong symbolic character, with the ability to adapt to sports, artistic and cultural events.

Its construction took more than four years, due to the high costs of the work (90 million dollars). The arena just had its inauguration on November 12, 2018, with a show that brought together several referents of Uruguayan music (No Te Va Gustar, Agarrate Catalina, among others).

"For Uruguay it is an honor to receive the first final of the Basketball Champions League Americas. All levels of Uruguayan basketball highly value this decision", said Ricardo Vairo, president of the Uruguayan Basketball Federation.

For sporting events, it has a capacity of up to 11,000 spectators, although on this occasion, taking into account the protocols of the Uruguayan Ministry of Health for the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCLA final will be without an audience.

In addition, it has connectivity, security protocols, giant screens in the center as the main attraction and a press room with all the comforts to work.

"Although when choosing the venue, different factors were taken into account, such as the Antel Arena, the level of hotels and the very good connectivity, it is clear that the country's situation regarding the management of the pandemic was the key element for the final decision", added Vairo.

The first basketball game at the Antel Arena was played on November 29, 2018, with Uruguay's victory over Puerto Rico by 64-62, in the qualifying rounds for the FIBA ​​World Cup China 2019. Also, in May 2019, it was site of the fifth game of the local league semifinals between Aguada and Nacional, and in September of that same year, the epicenter of the NBA G-League for five days.

On Friday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m the Antel Arena will host another historical moment: the first final of the Basketball Champions League Americas.
