    Expert picks

Over the course of the season we will have a series of experts to call on for their predictions. You can either roll with their picks when you aren't sure or even better, take your opportunity to prove them wrong and outscore them on the Leaderboard.

BCL Columnist Diccon Lloyd-Smeath is back behind the wheel with his predictions for Gameday 5.

Last week, he had six correct predictions, including two perfect scores, but more importantly, he's yet to steer you wrong on either Safe Pick or Wildcard predictions.

Let's see if he can repeat the feat this week.

    Safe Pick🔒

Unicaja on the road against Filou Oostende are my safe pick this week.

After a slower start domestically than they have grown accustomed to in recent years, the reigning BCL champs are now unbeaten at the top of Group G and won six of the last seven in all competitions.

With added Chase Audige to the roster and Chris Duarte looking more and more settled every game - Duarte had 19 points, and 4 assists in only 19 minutes of action in an impressive, 105-82 win over BAXI Manresa on November 22 - Ibon Navarro's team looks like they are finding their flow at exactly the right time.

The last meeting between these two saw Unicaja run out 102-80 winners at home.

Kendrick Perry dropped 22 points and 3 assists in 20 minutes, followed by Chris Duarte with 17 points and 3 assists in 23 minutes. Unicaja shot 63 percent from the field and dominated pretty much every statistical category.

Oostende have won two games on the spin domestically, but at 0-4 in the BCL, there is no road to the Play-Ins left for them and it's hard to see them finding a way to overpower Unicaja in this one.

    Wildcard 🃏

Don't look now but ALBA BERLIN are on 10-game winning streak!

Pedro Calles' squad haven't lost since early October and just seem to be going from strength to strength after winning the double-header against ERA Nymburk in the BCL.

Their opponents for this week are the red hot Elan Chalon, who have won seven of their last eight in all competitions as well.

Elric Delord's team sit top of Group B and will undoubtedly be deserved favorites against ALBA BERLIN at home but that's why it's called a wild card pick...

If it didn't take a little bit of bravery to make the pick, it wouldn't be that wild.

it's also worth noting that Chalon won the first game between these two 81-76 in Berlin so with the head-to-head advantage at only 5 points, its absolutely game on when it comes to topping Group B.

Jack Kayill has come alive for ALBA in recent weeks. He had 21 points, including some big-time clutch plays, in a 89-83 win over Fraport Skyliners on December 7, and looks like he has stepped into the void left by the departure of Boogie Ellis.

It won't be easy and we can expect fireworks, but I'm going for a shock win for the Germans this week.

If you've read our story in the Advanced Stats Manchines in the BCL this season, you'd know that ALBA BERLIN are flying under the radar as one of the best defensive teams in the league this season and I think their defense will see them get over the line this time.
