Big shots, big plays - those who made them are on the Team of the Week

MIES (Basketball Champions League) - The competition for spots on the Team of the Week for Gameday 1 in the Basketball Champions League was as fierce as it's ever been but a quality quintet has finally been selected.

Some players put up big numbers while others played exceptionally well in difficult moments of games, including in hostile environments.

Ariel Filloy, Guard

After not only making Italy's FIBA EuroBasket 2017 roster but blossoming into one of the most important players under coach Ettore Messina, Filloy has returned to the Basketball Champions League wars and made an immediate impact for Sidigas Avellino. With Wednesday's game at Besiktas knotted at 74-74 and just 3:30 from the end, Filloy earned a trip to the line and sank two free-throws to put the Italian side ahead to stay. He scored seven of his team's last 10 points, including a 3-ball with 17 seconds remaining that stretched the advantage to 86-80. He was 3 of 4 from the arc and had 17 points, 3 assists and an efficiency rating of +14. The 30-year-old played solid defense, including on Besiktas center Sertac Sanli. 

Dusan Djordjevic, Guard

Djordjevic was a pest on defense for Oostende and had 3 steals

The Oostende veteran was at his best in Tuesday's 74-66 triumph at Telekom Baskets Bonn. The 34-year-old scored, set up teammates for baskets and harassed the German club. He finished with 17 points, including a 9-of-10 effort at the free-throw line. Djordjevic also had 8 assists, 3 steals and a game-high efficiency of +24.

Sylven Landesberg, Forward

AEK had no answers for Landesberg, who scored 28 points in Estu's win

The 27-year-old paid an early dividend for Movistar Estudiantes, erupting for 28 points in an 87-79 victory at AEK Athens. Landesberg, who averaged 17.5ppg in Estu's narrow Qualification Round 3 triumph over Donar Groningen, connected on 3 of his 5 attempts from long range and buried 9 of his 13 shots overall. He walked off the court with a sparkling +27 efficiency rating.

Gediminas Orelik, Forward

Orelik made plenty of clutch shots last season with Banvit, who reached the Basketball Champions League Final. Now with Umana Reyer Venezia, the Lithuanian is wasting no time in taking center stage. He did so against his former team, Banvit, on Tuesday night. Orelik had a game-best efficiency rating of +31 after scoring 24 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and handing out 3 assists. Orelik did commit a blunder when he fouled Adonis Thomas in the corner while the Banvit star was making a 3-pointer with less than a second to go in the first overtime. Thomas went to the line and made the free-throw to force a second extra period. In the third overtime, Orelik hit a 3-pointer for a 98-95 advantage, a shot that put Venezia in front for good. When a Thomas lay-up cut the deficit to 102-99 for Banvit, Orelik went to the other end and drilled his fourth and final trey. Yes, he made a mistake with a crucial foul on Thomas, but he did what great players do and that was to make amends.

Jarrod Jones, Center

Jones has been a tower of power so far for Pinar Karsiyaka

There is no doubt about it. Pinar Karsiyaka have signed a dominating center in Jarrod Jones. He followed up his back-to-back 27-point performances against Alba Fehervar in the Qualification Round 3 with 29 in Wednesday's 88-87 triumph at Dinamo Sassari. Jones, who also had 9 rebounds, finished with a game-best +33 efficiency rating.
