    Each week, experts are analysing the games. In order to improve the understanding of referees' decisions and to increase the transparency towards our fans, we publish some of those "tough calls", together with an explanation.

    Please find below the latest "tough calls":

    Tough Call 1 - Clear offensive foul by player using his arm to dislodge his defensive opponent in the air

    During a Yellow team offense, Yellow 6 drives the baseline and passes off to cutting his teammate Yellow 14, who jumps to shoot. As vertical Red defender 24 tries to block the shot, Yellow 14 uses his left arm to push Red 24 illegally.

    Outcome: Correct call by the officials and no basket.

    Tough Call 2 - Contact on the face by a teammate during a rebound situation, no foul

    Following an attempt at goal by Blue 9, the ball rebounds high into the air and is contested by Blue 23, Blue 3 and also White 15. As the players land, Blue 23 is accidentally gets contact on his face by teammate Blue 3. There is no foul by White 15.

    Outcome: Correct call by the officials.

    Tough Call 3 - Double technical foul by opposing players after rough play and trash talking

    White 12 drives to basket followed by defender Black 14. His attempt is blocked by Black 4. Black 14 gets contact on his back by White 15 and falls to the floor. White 15 attempts to score from the rebound but misses and as White 12 gathers the ball and jumps, he is fouled by Black 4 on the arm. As Black 4 and White 21 contest the loose ball, they contact each other and shout at each other. The nearest referee calls a Technical foul on Black 4 and White 21 after awarding free throws for White 12.  

    Outcome: Correct call by the officials.

    Tough Call 4 - Coach Technical Foul for protesting to the officials after no call after shot was blocked

    During an offense by the Blue team, number of passes between players result in the ball being received baseline by Blue 8. His attempt to score is blocked by defender Grey 54 who starts a transition for his team. The Blue team's Coach protests the 'no call' and is awarded a Technical foul by the officials for his emotional behaviour.

    Outcome: Correct call by the officials.

    Tough Call 5 - Travelling violation incorrectly called as a double dribble by the officials

    During a White Team offense, White 22 attempts to penetrate but because of defensive pressure, he passes off to White 4. Under pressure from Red 7, White 4 jumps with the ball in both hands and then drops the ball to the floor and upon landing he passes the ball to White 0. The officials incorrectly call the violation as a double dribble, but it is a travelling rule violation.   

    Outcome: Incorrect call by the officials.
