Trifunovic takes the helm of European champions Slovenia for World Cup Qualifiers

LJUBLJANA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Slovenia have named Rado Trifunovic as their new head coach for the country's FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers campaign.

LJUBLJANA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Slovenia have named Radovan Trifunovic as their new head coach for the country's FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers campaign.

An assistant to coach Igor Kokoskov this summer when the Slovenians went unbeaten and knocked off Latvia, Spain and then Serbia in the title game in what was the senior team's first-ever podium finish, Trifunovic will now lead the side against Belarus, Spain and Montenegro in First Round Group A of the China 2019 Qualifiers.

The appointment of Trifunovic, who is already the coaching instructor at the Slovenian Basketball Federation, ensures continuity.

In a communiqué announcing his appointment, the Federation said: "Rado Trifunovic proved himself to be the right person to take this responsible task in this uncertain period of qualifications.

"He is a top-level expert who was the right-hand man in the last three major competitions."

Slovenia, meanwhile, revealed that Igor Kokoskov, an assistant coach of the Utah Jazz, will remain involved as a consultant.
