Nzeulie upbeat Cameroon good enough for slot in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019

CHALON-SUR-SAONE (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) - One thing that Cameroon's guard Jeremy Nzeulie is certain of is that his national team is good enough to secure one of the five places for African teams for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China.

Although the Central Africans have never featured in FIBA's most important competition, that hasn't prevented Nzeulie from dreaming big.

"We have in Joel Embiid the best center in the world. We have a lot of talented players at home and abroad, and all we need to do is to bring all those pieces together, and we'll let our game speak for itself.  - Nzeulie

Drawn in Group A alongside with Guinea, South Africa and Tunisia, Cameroon will begin their quest for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in November.

While Cameroon appear as the second highest ranked team in the pool, behind Tunisia, Nzeulie insists they are capable of making history by securing one of the five tickets on offer for African teams for the 32-team China 2019 showdown.

"If we bring our best players, we are a team capable of competing against the best in the world," the 26-year-old told FIBA.com.

"We might not beat a team like France, but surely we'll not be a pushover.

"We have in Joel Embiid the best center in the world. We have a lot of talented players at home and abroad, and all we need to do is to bring all those pieces together, and we'll let our game speak for itself.

"It will be good to have a chance of playing in Cameroon in front of our fans."

Asked to evaluate Cameroon's Group A opponents, the Elan Chalon star described Tunisia as "a strong team because they play quality basketball and are very competitive.

"For what they have been doing in recent years, Guinea seem to have a decent team.

"I don't know much about South African basketball but if they are in the qualifiers it's because they must be a good team."

Early this year, Cameroon Basketball Federation announced a 30-player list for future international commitments, and although Nzeulie confirms his availability to represent the country of his parents, he says: "Right now, I am focused on helping my club in the [Pro A] playoffs.

Additionally, Cameroon are expected to give a shot at this year's FIBA AfroBasket.
