Basketball Star Rudy Gobert is named The Champion For Peace of the Year

MONACO (Monaco) – On 11 December 2021, French National Basketball team star Rudy Gobert received the Peace and Sport Champion for Peace of the Year award.

'Peace and Sport' is an international, neutral, and independent organization based in Monaco, which promotes peace using the power of sport. Their awards put the spotlight on initiatives and individuals who have particularly contributed to peace and social stability in the world. The FIBA Foundation is a partner of 'Peace and Sport' and was active with them during the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

'Peace and Sport' explain " The Champion for Peace of the Year Award “rewards an athlete who has led a significant and sustainable sports initiative towards peace, justice, and social inclusion”. The Utah Jazz player has earned the award with the work he does with his Foundation ‘Rudy’s Kids’.

Rudy Gobert’s mission is to help kids realize their full potential by giving them opportunities in health, education, community outreach and recreation. It is great to see that The Champion For Peace award has been awarded to a basketball player who shares the Foundation’s mission of using Basketball For Good.

Rudy Gobert told Peace and Sport "As a professional athlete, kids look up to you and get inspired by your actions. Through my Foundation, I wanted to take up concrete actions to protect them and to empower them. I wanted to help improve the lives of children and families in need and help them achieve their dreams. It is a great pleasure to be recognized for my social commitment and I warmly thank Peace and Sport and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco for this Award. I look forward to continuing to inspire and support disadvantaged children."
