ANDRE HOLDER, one of the best schoolboy basketball players in the country, has landed a spot at a National Basketball Association (NBA) camp.
The Barbados Amateur Basketball Association's (BABA) nomination of Holder was approved by FIBA and the NBA for The St Michael School student to attend the NBA camp.
The Basketball Without Borders Americas Camp, as it is called, will be held in Puerto Rico from July 17-20.
Andre, a member of the Sagicor Tridents Premier League side, will be the third recipient since Ramon Simmons and Zenas Phillips of Queen's College attended this prestigious camp in 2004 which was held in Brazil.
He will be amongst a group of the most talented young players from across the Americas region. Players from host country Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Jamaica will be in attendance.
During the week-long clinic, Andre will get the opportunity to expose his talent to a number of college and NBA scouts who usually attend. In fact, in Brazil, every NBA team had a representative scout at the camp.
A group of select NBA coaches and NBA players from the Americas will be conducting the coaching programme.
In Brazil, Ramon and Zenas had the opportunity to rub shoulders with Mutumbo of the New York Knicks and Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns. (MK)
